From Small Town to Global Impact

What started as a single discount store in Rogers, Arkansas, has grown into the world's largest retailer. Sam Walton opened the first Walmart in 1962 with one mission: to help people save money so they could live better.

Today, we operate thousands of stores under 48 banners in 24 countries and eCommerce websites. We employ 2.3 million associates around the world — nearly 1.6 million in the U.S. alone.
